Chris Grisafe

for Fairfax County School Board at-Large

U.S. Coast Guard Veteran  ◦  Community Leader ◦  National Security Professional

I have served as an appointed member of the FCPS School Bonds Committee, Superintendent's Business Advisory Committee, and Adult Education Advisory Committee. I am running for the at-Large seat on the Fairfax County School Board to protect the excellence of our schools and the quality of our community.

FCPS must continue to provide a high-quality education that prepares all students for the modern workforce, higher education, and the pursuit of responsible citizenship. We must empower and educate our students for success and meaningful lives.

Northern Virginia has been my home for over a decade, though I grew up in an old steel town in Southern California. Throughout my life, support from dedicated public school teachers and mentors focused me on setting and relentlessly pursuing goals.

Their contributions influenced my pursuits and success in education, military service and my professional career.

Excellence in our school system directly impacts the success of our community and I know from personal experience the impact that quality schools can have in the lives of children.

I now seek to serve and give back to create for students more opportunities like those I've been fortunate enough to encounter along the way!

I would be honored to have your support and your vote.

- Chris

Making a Difference

Education Matters in Fairfax

We live in a county where people believe in quality education and the opportunity it creates for children in our community.

A great champion for children - in a classroom, in charge of a school or on a School Board - can change lives.

Fairfax County families and taxpayers know education brings economic development and jobs, maintains home values and impacts the overall quality of life.

Chris Grisafe holds the core values Fairfax County needs

to protect and fight for excellence in education, to stay focused on what is best for our students - driving dollars to the classroom - rather than getting sidetracked by experimentation and playing politics with our children's education

I want to protect the excellence in our schools. FCPS must continue to provide a high quality education that prepares all students for the modern workforce, higher education, and the pursuit of responsible citizenship. We must empower and educate our students for success and meaningful lives.

Teachers Made The Difference

Northern Virginia has been my home for over a decade, however, I grew up in an old steel town in Southern California. I don’t know where I would be if not for engaged and concerned teachers and mentors along the way.

Tragically, my mother passed away before I started school. The combination of support from extended family and the influence of inspiring teachers and mentors throughout my formative years made me feel loved at a time when I was most acutely aware I didn’t have a mom, challenged me to do better and to set goals, and inspired me to believe that I could achieve.

Mentors Made The Difference

While on ride-alongs as a high-school student, Sheriff Deputies invested time with me and encouraged me to serve in the their Explorer program, which I credit with leading to my service in the U.S. Coast Guard.

While in the military serving in Alaska, mentors propelled me to take on roles as a Coast Guard spokesperson, to become a San Francisco News station intern, and as a community college student. to further expand my education. With their encouragement, I applied to Loyola Marymount University and became the first in my family to graduate from college - and then went on to earn my MBA from Virginia Tech.

Help Me Make The Difference

The importance and influence of the many teachers and mentors who were consequential guide posts in my life cannot be overstated. Their example, along with the experience of my blended international family, has inspired me, in turn, to give back. I've spent time volunteering with the Junior Achievement Program at an Oakland City school, and as an advisor to students at George Mason University.

Now I seek to serve and represent you as an at-Large member on the Fairfax County School Board. - Chris Grisafe

Protect Excellence in FCPS, Protect the Quality of Our Community!

The quality of our Fairfax County Public schools impacts the desirability and quality of our community. Ironically, there is a widely held perception that one needs to have kids in the school system to have a voice in the quality of the schools. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The reality is, companies move to places where employees want to live, and homebuyers want to live near quality schools. In fact, according to the National Association of REALTORS® 2015 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, school quality and proximity to schools ranked among the most significant deciding factors in a homebuyer's choice where to purchase a home.

Moreover, while 75% of residents do not have students in our public schools, more than half of Fairfax County's budget is invested in our school system, and ~70% of that investment is derived from our property taxes. The truth of the matter is, we ALL have a stake in the quality of our schools. We are all investors.

We need a school board focused on protecting our investment, and ensuring that our public school system gives all students every chance to succeed in life and become contributing citizens.
